Take a minute to learn more about Interactive Director Sarah “Speed Stick” Whisman…
1. What is your position at O’Brien et al. Advertising?
Interactive Director
2. What do your responsibilities entail?
I supervise all interactive services and identify strategies to keep OEA improving on what our interactive team can offer clients. This involves some research to keep up with the ever-changing interactive world and to identify areas of improvement. I love the fast pace and new technology that comes with working in interactive marketing.
3. How long have you been with OEA?
1 year
4. Using a scale of 1 to 10, rate yourself on how weird you are.
I will use this question to talk about my 4 dogs because there are no questions specifically about them and they should be mentioned. I live with 2 jack russell terrier pups (Ginger and Emma), an older jrt mix (Rosie) that I rescued and a 2 year old corgi (Giuseppe). They are a bundle of energy and quite entertaining. They will be coming out with there own blog soon so stay tuned for that!

5. So you’re into roller derby. Will you tell us a little about that and how you got your nickname?
Yes, I am a member of our local Dominon Derby Girls! If you have never seen roller derby, it’s great fun to watch and I highly recommend it. I keep trying to recruit other OEAers but no luck so far. You are probably imagining something like the old roller derby that used to play on TV where women would get thrown over railings and such. Well, it’s not quite like that anymore. There are lots of rules, a penalty box and lots of hard hitting action! Have I convinced you yet?
On to the derby name…every derby player that makes it through “fresh meat” training gets to choose a derby name for herself. After that, you are pretty much referred to by your new name by anyone in the league. So, it’s a big decision and you also need to try to choose a unique name that no one else is using. Needless to say, it took me a while to come to a final decision but I finally settled on “Speed Stick”. Why? Well, I have always been on the skinny side and I play one of the faster positions so it worked quite nicely. After being called that for about 3 years, I am still happy with my derby name decision. Most girls choose names that reflect some aspect of their personality. The names are very creative, another fun part of coming to watch!
6. Why do you think you and Erin make up the noisiest department at OEA?
It’s just the nature of being in an interactive department. That’s how we roll! (All readers should also know that Julia gets to make up these questions and may be poking fun at how quiet and hardworking our interactive team is. 🙂 )
7. Where on Earth would you scream “NO WAY” if you learned you had to travel there?
Well, if it’s “no way I’m so excited to go there”, it would be Ireland. There are probably quite a few other places that would also get this response. Name a place and I will let you know. If it’s “no way, I really don’t think I want to go there”, I can’t really think of a place. I’m always up for a new adventure.
8. If you were a cereal, what kind would you be?
Something really healthy but also a little sweet. I have a horrible sweet tooth.
9. Use programming language to describe a chicken.

10. What color best represents your personality and why?
I guess I would say yellow and blue. I’m pretty happy-go-lucky and very laid back.
