Make sure to go see for yourself the heart-stirring memorial on 35th St. at the oceanfront.
The Virginia Beach Police Foundation recently unveiled a new memorial in honor of the Virginia Beach police officers who have given the ultimate price – their lives – protecting the city. The event drew upwards of 300 attendees, including over 80 family members of those being honored. OEA has been working closely with the VBPF on their website and various collateral materials for the past year, and we couldn’t be more proud to be associated with such an honorable organization.

The pictures on the plaques in front of the statue changed! I realize that it sounds crazy, andI would not believe it either if I had not experienced it myself. The plaque that talks about HOPE… I swear that until last night, that plaque had a picture of a fallen officer named Charles. My great uncle, Charles Smalley, was a Norfolk police officer for many many many years. He passed away in 1994. The picture of the officer named Charles in front of the statue was a very very close resemblance to my uncle. When i went to look at that picture last night, it had been replaced. There was an officer looking at the memorial as well, and he asked me if I had any questions. I asked him if he knew wether or not the pictures on the plaques are changed every so often. He said, “No they do not get changed. What you see now has always been here.” All I can say is WOW. That memorial is really, really, really special. It relayed a very beautiful message to me at a time when I needed it the most.
